All saws will fall into one of two categories being; power tools saws and hand saws.  Most wood work can be done with hand saws however power tools saws are quicker and much more efficient, getting the job done in half the time.

Below are the main types of hand and power tools saws you can buy and use in the home:

Cross cut Saw

Operated as a general purpose saw the crosscut saw is used to cut across the groove of wood. The crosscut is approximately twenty five inches long and has about six to eight sharpened teeth per inch and that are set alternately left and right. This is a hand saw which is very popular in villages and towns that are quite rural, such as Billericay and Hamptonshire.

Back Saw power tools saws

Woodworkers use the back saw as an all round saw, as its a power tools saws that is very versatile and smooth. It is considered to be the best general purpose saw by most woodworkers, especially when a finer touch is needed as it is easier to control than most saws. The saw is generally 12 inches long and has approximately 14 to 17 teeth per inch, making this a very reliable and smooth cutting saw.

Coping Saw power tools saws

The coping saw is used to cut curves in wood and has a thin, but sturdy blade with fine teeth. The woodworker can move the angle of the blade so as to adjust the direction of the cut.

Circular Saw power tools saws

Acircular saw is the most used of all power tools saws and has a strong reputation to cut materials quickly. The saw has circular blades that are between 5 to 9 inches in diameter and a straight blade can be added to cut parallel. The blade can be adjusted to different depths for grooving and the plate tilted for angled cuts. As power tools saws go, this is probably the most popular, next to the next one, the Jigsaw.

Jigsaw power tools saws

Jigsaw power tools saws are used mainly to cut curves into wood etc.  The jigsaw operates by a blade which moves up and down, as the power tool is manouvered around the material. The blades are easily replaceable and there are different strength blades depending on the material being cut.
